December 5, 1995
Dear Pastor,
Greetings to you in this Christmas season.
The month of December is always a busy month in the church year, but I trust you will find a minute or two to read our monthly missive.
One of the experiences I have had over the past couple years at the Woodland Drive-In Church has been to see, in three separate instances, a middle-aged daughter taking her elderly mother to our services because the latter was no longer able to tolerate sitting in a church pew. All three of these daughters indicated how thrilled their mothers were to be able to get out and go to church. In one of the situations, the mother had her oxygen tank in the car to assist her breathing.
None of these family units are now attending our Drive-In services. In two instances, the Lord saw fit to take these elderly women to be with him in his heavenly home, and the daughters now attend their own churches again (except for an occasional visit for old times sake). In the third case, the mother fell, broke her hip, and has entered full time nursing home care. We were happy to be able to minister to these women for a period of time. We express sympathy to the aughters in the loss they have experienced, but we are glad that they can now resume activities at their home church.
As we have been saying over the past months, the Woodland Drive-In Church is a service church. We do not hold membership papers, and we never intend to. We see ourselves as ministering to a group of people who might not otherwise attend a worship service. Perhaps you have a parishioner or two who could benefit from our church for a period of time. We would be delighted to minister to them on your behalf.
If you would like more information on the Woodland Drive-In Church, you can contact me at 698-3471 during the day or at 235-2871 in evenings or on weekends. Or, if you have a Sunday morning free, perhaps you would like to attend one of our 11:00 services at 2600 Breton SE.
Sincerely,
Verlyn D. Verbrugge
